Provenance: Georg and Nadia Lindemann, thence by descent to their granddaughter, Denmark. Georg Emanuel Lindemann (1896-1991) worked as a telegraph operator for The Great Northern Telegraph Company and met his wife Nadia Borodina in the area around Vladivostok, where they married and settled. In the late 1930s they moved to Denmark.
The Russian artist Boris Krilov was born in Moscow where he studied before emigrating to Yugoslavia in 1920 where he worked for an advertising agency. In the mid 1920’s he moved to France, living and working in Paris where he was active in the theatre scene creating set designs as well as scenes of cabarets and restaurants in Montmartre. His work also often depicts genre scenes from Russian peasant life and theatrical depictions of Russian folklore. He worked in oil, watercolour, gouache and ceramic, exhibited his work at the salons and throughout Europe including England, Poland, France, Serbia and Denmark, as well as in both South and North America.
