Danish sterling silver 1940 Christmas spoon with inlaid enamel decoration, depicting Gruntvig's Church in Copenhagen, stamped with Copenhagen three tower mark and dated 1940, sterling mark, maker's mark for for Grann and Laglye, and assayer's mark for Johannes Stittgard (1832-1960).
Grundtvig's Church was erected in commemoration of the great Danish priest, poet, and reformer N.F.S. Grundtvig (1783-1882). This monumental church was designed by master architect Peder Vilhelm Jensen-Klint shortly after World War I and is referred to in modern terms as a gothic cathedral. More than 6 million yellow bricks form a serene, minimalist look, juxtaposed with a soaring façade that evokes the shape of a church organ.
